Riding shotgun game walkthrough

Go ahead and grab the crossbow from the crates. Go out and use the crossbow to pick off the Combine in the house across from you. Push forward and jump into the car.

Stop for a minute and wait for Alyx to jump in. Then drive out the open gate. Crash through the zombine and get out onto the railroad tracks. Turn left and get ready for a lot of driving and dodging. Stick to the middle for now. It should just drop mines on the train cars. Hang on until the last minute and then cut to the right to dodge the mine in the center. Follow the train along the right side and stick close to the fence to dodge the mines. Then cut back to the middle. Cut over to the left and then head straight for the tunnel.

Get in and hit the loading screen. Drive forward and hit the ramp. Keep going down the road until the fast zombie latches onto the hood. Hit the handbrake and swing around for a u-turn. Follow either side of the road forward. As you pass the zombies and hit the ramp, the Combine gunship will swing back around and fire. For the next part, you basically just have to swing back and forth to dodge the mines. Just stay mobile and try to stick to the right. Be careful of the logging car, since the gunship will cut the chains and send the logs onto the road.

Swing all the way to the right to avoid them. After this, just look ahead and aim for the Rebel sign on the gate. Smash into it and swing the car around as the engine dies. A rebel will come out of the crate and signal you inside.

Go in and pull out the gravity gun. Move forward. If not, then just toss it away. Crawl forward until you get to the dud. Always a fun time, the crossbow helps you clear out Combine forces which have responded to the Adviser's alert.

Surviving the onslaught of this helicopter. If you parked too far away, you'll find your car has magically moved to a handicapped spot close to the red building. Your gnome will be back where you had parked, but this fallen tree trunk makes retrieval difficult, but possible.

Throw your gnome in the car, retrieve remaining supplies you're in need of like medkits then drive away. The problem here is that if you drive like the bat out of hades that facilitates a safe escape, your gnome will likely fall out of the car, especially when colliding with Combine zombies like I am here.

Note the supply crate ahead -- crashing into these hard enough to bust them open will replenish your health even while inside the car. Some have reported success by repeatedly exiting the car, throwing the gnome, then driving to retrieve it and repeat. I, however, found exiting the car to be a virtual death sentence. Sometimes the chopper's gunfire was strong enough to send me flying off the game map as seen here. To add to your difficulties, the chopper will be dropping mines.

You'll need to avoid the mines or else they'll explode, causing significant damage. With a little luck and a lot of patience you and your gnome will make it to the temporary safety of this tunnel. Those not burdened with the gnome can just turbo all the way here without much difficulty. Once through the tunnel, your next hurdle literally is to jump over this barricade. You're safe retrieving your gnome here, and it will in all likelihood fall out as you make the jump.

Alyx gives this fast zombie the boot before you reach a dead-end. Clear the yard long enough for you and Alyx to hop back into the car and continue on your merry way. You're not far from danger yet, as a helicopter chases after you and Alyx.

Follow the linear path and watch for the chopper to begin dropping mines that you'll have to quickly dodge. We suggest smashing through all of the boxes on your path as you'll collect health and armor pickups as you do. When driving around the train cars, don't hesitate to switch lanes so to speak to get around the chopper's mines. If you find yourself surrounded, you can temporarily stop and wait for the mines to detonate on their own before continuing along the tracks.

Eventually you'll head into tunnel. It's in this basement where you'll need to restart the power. To the left of the elevator platform is a pair of outlet plugs and a power cable that's too short to go between the plugs. Pick up the cable and carry it across the room where you'll find three more power outlets.

Connect the short cable to the top two outlets, then grab the longer cable that's on this side of the room. Use the longer cable to connect the two outlets on the other side of the room and power will be restored. Hop into the elevator platform and ride it back up to regroup with Alyx.
